Affiliate revenue calculator: forecast partner income without inflated assumptions

Calculate publisher revenue from eligible traffic, clicks, confirmed actions and earnings per action, with a worked example and sensitivity checks.

Start with commission, not the customer price

The price a customer pays is not automatically the commission a publisher earns. A provider can pay a fixed amount, a percentage or another campaign-specific reward. Read the actual offer terms before entering a value in a forecast. A subscription price is not a safe substitute for the CPA payout.

Awin’s program overview describes advertisers defining commission rates and rewarded actions. The calculation below is our planning model, not a network benchmark or an earnings guarantee.

The basic calculation

Expected partner income = eligible users × click-through rate × confirmed-action rate × earning per confirmed action.

Eligible users are the people who can actually see and qualify for the offer, not the entire app install base. Click-through rate uses those eligible exposures as its denominator. Confirmed-action rate uses tracked clicks. Keep these definitions consistent between the spreadsheet and the dashboard.

If repeat exposures are counted as impressions rather than users, label the first input accordingly. Mixing unique visitors with repeated impressions can make a funnel look better or worse without any real business change.

A worked hypothetical example

Assume 10,000 eligible users, a 12% click-through rate and a 6% confirmed-action rate. That yields 1,200 clicks and 72 confirmed actions. At an illustrative $22.50 earning per action, the estimate is $1,620 before any additional deductions specified in the agreement.

None of these inputs represents a verified market average. The example does not describe an available YouTube, Spotify or other named offer. Replace every assumption with approved campaign terms and observed pilot data before using the result for a commercial commitment.

Model uncertainty instead of a single promise

Hold the same traffic, click rate, payout and share constant. At a 3% confirmed-action rate, the example gives 36 actions and $810. At 9%, it gives 108 actions and $2,430. That range shows how sensitive earnings are to one uncertain input; it is not a confidence interval.

For a portfolio of offers, calculate each offer separately and add the results. A simple average payout is misleading if most traffic reaches the lowest-paying offer. Keep currencies separate until an explicit exchange-rate rule is applied.

Connect forecasts to operational reporting

Decide whether your confirmed-action rate already excludes declines and reversals. If it does, applying another approval percentage would double-discount the forecast. Likewise, do not subtract deductions twice when a provider report already contains a net amount.

Track a mature click cohort to compare expected and actual results, allowing for the documented validation lag. Record pending commission separately from confirmed and received amounts. A high projected return is not evidence that money is currently available for payout.
